Scrap Iron Prices in Japan: July 2025 Update

As of July 10, 2025, scrap iron prices in Japan have experienced a slight decline. Tokyo Steel has reduced its purchase prices for H2-grade scrap by ¥500 per metric ton at its Utsunomiya and Tokyo Bay facilities. Post-adjustment, the prices stand at ¥40,000/ton ($273) for Utsunomiya and ¥40,500/ton ($276) for Tokyo Bay . This downward trend is attributed to factors such as currency appreciation and weakened overseas demand, leading to decreased export offers and subdued domestic market sentiment . The general price range for H2 scrap across Japan now varies between ¥38,000 and ¥40,500 per ton ($259–$276), depending on the region and mill . These adjustments reflect the dynamic nature of the scrap iron market, influenced by both domestic and international economic factors
